Plot of my Movie- Death's Promise

The title of the movie is called- Death's Promise

The opening starts with the location of a town/ village where the protagonist is appearing to be calm and collected, from this point pans and horizontal tracking will be used to "watch" him walking into the trouble that awaits him. Whilst walking he begins to get very anxious about his surroundings because he gets the feeling his being watched. He then stops in panic and then he see's a dark figure awaiting him on a bridge appearing under a streetlight, Death. A close up will be used to build up the tension and to give the idea he is the antagonist. The chase begins. Again I will incorporate a mixture of pans and horizontal tracking to establish the environment and to show stress and a sense of being watched in different directions. Then the protagonist is heading to a predicament which then I change to a reverse track/close up to show the distance he is travelling which changes into a POV/ hand held shot that is used to make it look like he is panicking and shows irritation and again changes this time into a pan to run away.
During the last pan, the protagonist begins to think logically and tries to lose this mysterious figure by running in different directions where the camera won't be able to see, then a the camera will appear round a corner and the boy is stilling running in stress and panic, he attempts to run into the local park which then backfires because the figure is standing in his path. The camera changes to the boys POV showing the figure, the tables then turn when the POV is in the antagonists eyes where he is closely watching his new victim by panning across the scene. The camera will then return to the boy running for safety and then gets the idea to hide in a somewhat high to see if he can find him, which again i will use a hand held POV to create tension the boy begins to stop and slowly turn round and behind him is the figure which will be roomed in on to make it it look like he attacked him. It fades to black no sound and then appearing on screen will be the body of the boy being zoomed to make it look like the deed is done.

The title sequence will include incidental/ non-diegetic music.

Task 4- Ideas for a Film

Horror

a. Group of teens are on a camping holiday and go into a secluded wood, but they are unaware that the woods are the home of different wildlife species which unexpectedly have been heavily mutated by nuclear run-off. From this point the volatile mutated animals start to appear an pick the teens one by one.

Rom-Com

a. The president is looking for love, but he thinks that people in his own country will only want him for his money and power. So what he does is go to another country and meets an out of touch peace core worker whom he falls in love with, but the twist is that he doesn't tell them what he really is until he knows they will stay.

Thriller

a. Etch A Sketch- After the death of the inventor of the Etch A Sketch, a crazed fan starts to kill people, leaving nothing but a clue on a an Etch A Sketch.

b. 10 Atheist Commandments- A religious nut kills people in the style of the Atheist Commandments.
Resilience, Empathy, Patience, Sacrifice, Politeness, Humour, Self-awareness, Forgiveness, Hope, Confidence.

As my final decision to watch pitch I want to do as an individual is thriller because I think it will be interesting when it comes to filming and editing. Also out of all the ideas that I have incorporated in this task I find that the ideas i have come up with in this specific genre sound better than any of the others.

Questionnaire- Research

Questionnaire Results

In my questionnaire, my first question was "What sub-genre do you enjoy most about thriller films". My research has found out that psychological thrillers are the most viewed/ enjoyed in the present era just for the fact they make you think about films more and they mess with your head. So i will take the idea into consideration when making/ planning my film.

In my questionnaire, my second question was "How often do you watch thriller films". My research has found out that people don' watch as many as 0-3 thriller films a week. This shows that thriller films aren't the most popular genre within the media industry, inconsideration to this i feel thrillers need to be viewed more and so i will make a thriller film.

In my questionnaire, my third question was "What gender do you prefer the protagonist to be in a thriller". My research has found out that a male sex is the most wanted protagonist. This may be because males are seen as the best to scare in some peoples opinion, this will effect my decision on choosing my right actor/actress.

In my questionnaire, my fourth question was "What gender do you prefer the antagonist to be in the thriller". My research has found out that a male sex is the most wanted antagonist. This may be because males are seen as quite dominant/ big figures and can easily lose control.

In my questionnaire, my fifth question was "How would you like a thriller to start". My research has found out that people find it better that their is an opening sequence to the film to get audiences into the mood. This people do not want to waste time during and after the film to see who made it and directed it etc. With this in mind i shall create an opening sequence to my film that i will make.

In my questionnaire, my sixth question was "What words first come to your mind when people say 'Thriller". My research has found out that the most common word is scary because this is one of the emotions people want to feel whilst watching a thriller.

In my questionnaire, my seventh question was "What grabs your attention in a Thriller storyline". My research has found out that a mysterious figure/psychological dilemma is a popular attention seeker because it makes audiences think why they are happening.

In my questionnaire, my eighth question was "What factors, from a thriller film, have the best impact on your emotions". My research has found out that music create the best atmosphere for emotion. I think this is because it makes you jump and the different dynamics and tempo make you think.

In my questionnaire, my nineth question was "What do you find most intriguing about thrillers". My research has found out that suspense/ excitement is the best to draw people in to watch thriller films. I think its because it keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know whats going to happen next.

In my questionnaire, my tenth question was "What builds suspense in a thriller film". My research has found out that people find the audio sounds to be the most suspensive feature to a film because they make you jump to create fear which is what thrillers are known to do just like horrors.

Opening Sequence- Just like Heaven (2008)

Opening Sequence of Just Like Heaven (2008)

The movie starts with the Dreamworks logo and some incidental music of a guitar over the top of it (the music isn't the expected company sounds they use) its a happy tune. From this screen, the camera tilts down from the Dreamworks into the clouds, this creates a 'heavenly' atmosphere which links into the title. Whilst the camera tilts the titles begin to fade in and fade out, the colours used for the titles are very bold and bright the colours consist of Pink, Blue, Yellow, Green and Red to accompany the upbeat music. The camera continues to spiral down into a heavenly garden, may be ideal from 'Garden of Eden' theme. Next, the director has used a dissolve to show the passage of time from a dream to reality, she could of been in the dream for hours. Reese Witherspoon is sitting center screen, she is wearing the outfit of a doctor which makes her seem stereotypically peaceful, like a protagonist in a fairytale.
We then see an out of context plastic chair and the song lyrics of 'Like a Dream', then an arm appears to reach out for her and the music stops when she wakes up from this mysterious dream. Reese Witherpoon is portrayed as a stereotypical protagonist of a romantic comedy; she is an original innocent person with blonde hair, blue eyes, young age, white with a homely persona. It shows that her life revolves around her job as a doctor, we can tell this by her commitment of her 24 hours at work. Elizabeth (Character name) is overworked, in the next sequence there is a constant use of cuts to different doctors giving her work, this shows the us lifestyle she has. Non- diegetic music becomes upbeat and happy again. From this point the cameras cut from different scenes to show the 'realistic' speed of how she works everyday nonstop. It appears to use as the viewing audience that she only works for a living, this is also shown by the fact their is no man in her life to balance it out and no children to keep her attention of her work all the time.
It then cuts to a bathroom scene where Elizabeth is talking to a few of her colleagues about their lives in general, it turns out that one of her friends is married, another one of them is divorced and she is the only one to have not found love in the past and present day, this shows that she is not as confident around men as her friends and that she needs to get out more. Elizabeth then begins to speak on the phone to her sister. Her sister is the stereotypical 'housewife', she works at home taking care of the family whilst her partner has gone to earn money. We can also tell she is well off because of the size of her house and multi-tasking, whereas Elizabeth is living in an apartment. At Elizabeth's work the head of department is a black male, this indicates a dominant person, we can also tell this because the fact their is a "Kiss My Ass" comedy to it because they want a specific promotion and Elizabeth and another person want the same thing so the other character 'Kisses ass'. Finally on the way to her friends house, she isn't paying attention to he road because she has a lot on her mind, then shes bright lights from an oncoming lorry which manages to hit her car, the bright lights are a connotation of heaven.
